I thought this until literally two days ago - that vine whip was for some reason different in terms of effectiveness than razor leaf. Let me explain, when I played gen 1 as a kid, I'm going to assume that I tried to use vine whip on like a tentacool and it wasn't very effective due to poison typing but then I used razor leaf on probably like a goldeen or something and it was super effective. I'd never really thought about it but I had always thought until literally three days ago that vine whip was selectively bad against certain types and razor leaf wasn't. Also I thought razor leaf was normal on flying types. I don't know - I've been avoiding vine whip for years until the other day when I consciously asked myself why and had to test it out and I was confused as to how I could ever have thought such a thing - let alone thought it for so long. Also I didn't even know ground was not very effective against grass until like a month ago because there's so many poison/grass pokes

To get the hidden "Yoshi" pokemon you need two players who both have beaten the game and have all 150 pokemon. 1.) The Blue version player trades the Red version player for a Dratini. 2.) The Blue version player then gets Dratini to a Dragonite and gives it back to the Red version player. Then the Red version player heads to the basement level of the Unknown Dungeon and surf closest to where MewTwo is/was. Then he/she uses a Fire Stone on the Dragonite.(Notice "Not Available" will appear but still select it.) 3.) The screen will glitch, and the Dragonite will evolve into "Yoshi". 4.) This Pokemon will have the stats and name of Dragonite, however it will have Yoshi's pic and will be No. 999. All you have to do is rename it as Yoshi.

I was the glitch wizard of my friends and was the first among us to do both the item/missingno dupe. But a lot of other people knew about that, what they didn't know how to do was trainer flying, when I figured that out with the internet (which was brand new here, we had just bought a Windows 95 PC for $2,000 in 1998) people thought I was magic. I knew how to do the Mew one and later learned how to do a few other ones like Hitmonchan, Kabutops, Omastar, ect. The best part was listening to people trying to rationalize what happened "WHEN YOU FLY IN FRONT OF A TRAINER COMING AT YOU YOUR BIRD MUST GET SCARED SO HE FLIES REALLY HIGH AND THEN MEW COMES DOWN!" Then I did it with Kabutops and asked them if he lived in the clouds too.

I thought the special stat meant how big the type effectivenesses were. So with a high special stat, your super effective moves would be more super effective, your weaknesses and resistances would be stronger. I believed this into the 3rd gen, when I started to get into competitive play. Because of this, I thought the special split was really stupid because it gave too much emphasis on the type effectiveness, and it was unnecessary to split between attack and defense for that. To give an example, I thought that a Normal Pokémon should ALWAYS have as little special defense as possible because the only thing it would do would be to make Fighting moves more super effective against it.

>>14055022 Because using tail whip and then attacking four times will do more damage than attacking five times. It's all circumstantial but stat reduction moves have their place. For example I just fought Whitney in heart gold, using my Nidorino's double kick. One double kick took Miltank to about 55%, so I used leer then double kick to ensure that the second double kick defeated the Miltank instead of reducing it to the level of HP where Whitney would use a potion on it.
Stat up moves are virtually always useful, anything that can dragon dance/swords dance/nasty plot will often sweep any in game team after a single stat up. Stat reduction moves are significantly less useful and serve no purpose in competitive play, but they have their uses during the first half of the game up until about the 4th gym typically. Once your Pokemon start getting better coverage and everything falls to you in 1 or 2 hits, that's when stat reduction moves stop being useful. I feel like people who can't find use for non-damaging moves these days are the same people who used a Charizard with fire blast, flamethrower, fire spin, and fly when they were kids.
