i usually train while having one-three pickupers pick them up, i then save them for when i'll need them
i now have over 30 of them, and don't see much of a reason to use any of 'em

When a pokemon levels up with exp and the exp bar requires the most exp possible. If you do it any other way you're retarded

I save them to check IVs, or I use them to evolve high level NFEs, like when you catch a lv64 spheal, two rare candies and it's a walrein. Only for dex data though, of course right now the only things i'm missing are 5th gen event legends aside from Victini and thundurus (I bought dream radar to get it, fucking gamefreak)

I use them when I get to the Elite Four. Doesn't make sense to use em throughout the game since it takes less experience to level up them. So I stockpile them until I get to the Elite Four and give my entire team a one or two level boost.

I skipped GenV and don't remember the previous ones. Can you get more of the rare consumables indefinitely from a shop or are they still limited like the first games?

You're wrong. You should be grinding on wild pokemon on every route until it takes way too long for a level. Save every Rare candy for when you are at the e4 and have no more trainers to grind on.

What? All you need to do is battle every trainer in the game, while not running from wild Pokemon as you progress, and you'll be at a proper level for the Elite Four. There is no reason to grind during the story ever.

Unless you want your entire team to be that level as well. If you go through each route catching every type that exists there, and fight along the way you might be at the right level, but I've almost always had to grind to keep my team the appropriate level (without just replacing them with higher level recent captures) in order to remain competitive.

Black and White was the first time I was ever at the appropriate level without having to grind, and thats because most of my team were all traded and gained exp faster.

Generally just use them to go from 99 to 100, or to evolve someone one level away from evolving.

They're ungodly useful for pseudo-legendaries and when you're really lazy and need to level something once for dex data. If you save a ton of them you can even use them to check IVs!

I use them right before or during the Elite Four.
It's just for that added comfort, usually if you're able to get through victory road without too much trouble then you're ready to beat the game the first time around.
Spread levels around or balance levels a bit.
Not that useful elsewhere I think.

I typically use Rare Candies when I don't want to grind. Usually I'll shark them in for rom playthroughs for when I've beaten all the trainers around and I don't feel like grinding (ofc I always buy the EV drugs as soon as I can so my Pokemon aren't ass). I also use them to get Pokemon up to level 100 after I've finished EV training them, or to give them a slight level boost so they can compete in an area where I'm EV training them.
