Johto, Kanto, and Hoenn were I believe. I forget what Sinnoh was based on, and I think Unova was supposed to be America, and I've heard rumors/speculation that Gen VI is France

Sinnoh is based on Hokkaido, the most northern region of Japan, Unova is based on New York, and Kalos was confirmed to be based on France.

op, the anime isnt canon but yeah they call it earth occasionally, but it has different geography (inconsistent within canon sources even)

Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are all based on regions in Japan.

Unova is based on an area in the US.

And Kalos IS based upon northern France.

It's easy to consider that the Pokemon world is indeed Earth, and does indeed have many of the real world countries. It's just that each country's geographic make-up and territorial aspects are different. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are all part of Poke-Japan, Unova is part of Poke-North America, and Kalos is part of Poke-France.

Ok, yeah, I haven't exactly been following X and Y's development that closely and I've never played a Sinnoh or Unova game myself

OP here. I don't really notice a drop in intelligence when new games are coming out.

I just never really thought about it. I know there are three separate Pokemon canons (the Manga, the Anime, and the Games), but there are a lot of inconsistencies regarding the geography and stuff.

I was just curious to hear people's opinions, that's all.

Dialga, Giratina, Palkia and Arceus live in their own dimention. They're basically gods. The rest of them live on Earth being the plebs they are. That's why they had to make the distinction.
