So I move that we make a /vp/ competitive league. This is mostly cause I'm tired of smogon's metagame and how shitty it is.

My proposed rules of the /vp/ Metagame

>Item clause
>Species clause
>No stalling (cannot have any combination of protect, detect, or substitute)
>No smogon stones. (Anything weak to rock loses all viability otherwise)

I think there were actually versions with Stealth Rock and Drought/Drizzle/Sandstream banned, but no one used them so they were shut down.

I understand that this is for the fun thing, and I've got nothing against it, but if you want clauses for the sake of fun you can't fucking complain about evasion clause.

I understand the idea of being mad at smogon because of the smugness and the autism that emanates from a lot of the members, but i feel those same people don't understand the actual reasons why smogon does things the way they do. If you create a new tier system/meta i bet within a year it will look strikingly similar to Smogon's either in rules or actual mons used. This is because the nature of a competitive community is to weed out inefficiencies anywhere it can in the name of having the best chance of winning. All competitive non-FPS gaming ends up with an "autistic" community, because consistency and attention to detail are what help you win. I'm not saying the Smogon meta cant be improved upon, but i would caution just dismissing it

.........That is unless you do things like ban substitute and SR just because they annoy you, then you will end up with a meta tailored to your personal enjoyment, not one the competetive scene will want anything to do with

Anyways, an ideal metagame:
>Sleep clause
>Species clause
>Item clause
>Evasion clause
>OHKO clause
>Moody clause
>Auto-Weather clause (No auto weather abilities, all except for Groudon and Kyogre have alternatives)

Bans: Anything with BST 600+ is autobanned, including all of the legendaries like Jirachi. Blaziken is forbidden to run speed boost (it's an arbitrary but necessary ban, either that or we ban Blaziken outright which isn't necessary).

Excadrill is powerful but not unstoppable without auto-sand around, so I don't think a specific ban would be needed.

SR ban isn't needed because it has counters, unlike auto weather, which is only countered by another auto weather or by designing a team around the assumption that the enemy will be running a particular weather.

But that's retarded. Otherwise I kinda agree, weather should've at the very least been suspected fairly early. It'd be like the DPPt Mence ban, not banning because it's broken, but because it'll create a better meta. Although most of Smogon thinks weather should be suspected it's just that there isn't enough time to start that much from scratch when X/Y is so close.

Weather has dominated the metagame since 4th gen. Sandstorm giving rock 50% bonus sp. def (making Ttar, already a solid pokemon VERY strong, despite fighting becoming a much stronger type) and Garchomp having sand veil made it basically a foregone conclusion that you're going to be playing under sand. Oh, and Hippowdon, didn't see much use towards the end of 4th gen but at the start he was a big deal too.

I don't know how people didn't see it coming to be honest.

I also agree that banning all of the 600BST legends is a little silly but I fucking hate Jirachi. I guess the problem solves itself without auto weather since Jirachi loves both rain and sand. Also gaining a weakness next gen. It has always rubbed me a bit wrong that some of the 600s slip into play and others are excluded while all of the trio legends are in play.
