they don't have to change stealth rock itself, if they made a move that removes stealth rock in a type other than normal or fighting, or with a respectable base power SR would be nerfed indirectly.

In short, we don't know nearly enough to conclude how big a role it will play in the new meta.

That's just because the way they stat up their Pokemon is accounting for SR. There are other plausible strats for doing residual damage and assuring KOs when needed.

nobody has used the strats you speak of to, you know, actually win

face it, stealth rock is pretty much mandatory unless you like to lose

they realized they made a mistake by getting rid of the tm and move tutors, but by allowing transfers the move isnt going anywhere.
the only reasonable thing to do is
1 have magic bounce reflect it on the switch no matter when it was dropped
2 have another move or two that can clear entry hazards just so there is more distribution
3 nerf it so it needs to be stacked like spikes
