Consider for a second how absolutely retarded it would be if you couldn't.

Done? OK. You can only have one Mega per team, but it's unknown whether the limit is equipping one mega stone per team or just activating one mega per battle.

im pretty sure it will only be one per battle, although with that in place i can see entire teams with nothing but mega pokemon so imo its all up in the air for now

Theoretically you could have two Pokemon holding their Mega items, there is absolutely nothing to stop you doing so. However considering it's been proven you can only run one mega evolution, you've effectively ended up with one member with no item.
