How did you find Pokemon, anon?
Did you research it for years before it hit the west, or did you just watch the cartoon and then get the games?
Most kids who started with Gen 1 did the latter, and the kids now can do the same.

I remember seeing Pokemon first on Lunchables and imagining a much more detailed 3d world from the game tips on the cards. Mainly because at that point I was playing PSOne games, so I imagined a larger world.

It's weird looking back at it. I was so fucking young. I think I got a year after it came out or so. I didn't know how to play it worth a shit, and would get stuck at the man blocking the road in Viridian. I didn't really beat a first gen game until I was older during Gen III. Heh.

Man, 15 years ago. I remember I was only about 5 years old. My parents bought me my first gameboy color with a copy of pokemon blue for my birthday. I don't know why. I don't remember asking for it personally. In fact, I doubt I even knew about pokemon before I got the gameboy and blue version.

I remember playing every day for hours on end--essentially learning how to read by talking to random NPCs in game and scanning over every bit of text that came up. I remember raising my bros and the sheer novelty of seeing who evolves into what and which pokemon are strong against others. I remember later playing with friends and my brother.

I visited my little cousin last summer. I didn't know she was into pokemon, but when I got to their house she had some drawings of sylveon and pikachu. She was surprised I played it, too, and showed me some of her pokemon toys. It was really cool. I hope she gets to play the new games. I'd love to experience that as a kid.
