So far the "leaks" that the crazy fanbase has wetted themselves over consist of (don't worry about spoilers, there's nothing to spoil):

The same professor intro speech "...blah blah blah, humans and Pokemon, blah blah..." v1.0.6

#010 : Bunnelby. This generation's Route 1 generic "vendor trash" Normal Type. Rattata / ... / Bidoof v1.0.6.

#014 : Fletchling. This generation's Route 1 generic bird type. Pidgey / ... / Starly v1.0.6.

Snorlax blocking a route. Holy s***, we've never seen this before!

Victory Road and (presumably) 8 monotype gym leaders.

Team Blabla v1.0.6

"New" regional Pokedex littered with returning species.

Is there anything new in this game that's not completely superficial? Just wow.

I know what you mean, OP. All these leaks are kind of meh and people are getting exciting for the wrong shit. Earlier in /v/ there were people shouting HYPED because a game advertised to let you wear hats actually had a hat store. SHOCKING! It's just like how people will hail bench sitting and diagonal movement as evidence the series is innovating along with fairy type. Fairy type is innovative for the series, not bench sitting and taking selfies.

The problem is that no one can make a fair judgment so far. The leaks have been shit. The best we got is one random new pokemon and the fanart with it. The rest of it shows obvious things like hat stores and customization or bad things like a heavy dependence on older gen pokemon and another Snorlax scenario.

I suppose double battles was a gimmick as well, same as day/night, berry trees, running shoes, all that other shit that carried over into later games. They can't drastically change the gameplay style just because it's sale. It's one of the things that draws people to the series. All they can do is make tweaks like a new type, or add things like horde battles in order to keep it interesting.

And if you seriously think that the changes between Gen 5 and 6 are too few, then look at the differences between Gen 4 and 5. To my recollection, the biggest change was hidden abilities. The games haven't even come out yet, so we don't know how drastically things like that have changed, so judging it based on the surface impression is one of the stupidest things you can do.

TL;DR, Pokemon will always be similar on the surface, because doing otherwise in the main series will impact them negatively.

Even then, this Gen feels vastly different to the last one.
