Quick question for competitive bros,

I haven't played competitive since Gen4. Slowbro is my favorite pokemon and was an amazing bulky water back then. Blastoise is my other favorite pokemon and I want to use him as well with the new evolution.

Does this mean I have to use a rain dance team to be viable? Or is randomly having two bulky waters not a redundant thing for normal teams

Slowbro for Trick Room is awesome. And I think Blastoise might work well as a spinner. Use your creativity.

Yes it's redundant even in Rain teams. But either of those alone will work well.

i dont mind doing a rain dance team, it just severely restricts the other 'mon i can use besides slowbro and blastoise

I suppose even outside of a rain dance team, they both provide pretty good utility

since you guys are helping me out I will be dumping all the blastoise/slowbro OC i have

i once got a TCG playmat with the slowtoise picture signed by matsuda. he thought it was hilarious. true story

Slowbro is everywhere in Gen 5 UU.
Tangrowth+Slowbro combo gets hit for neutral from everything other than Bug, and has infinite health because Regenerator/Synthesis/Recover and Leech Seed. For neutral hits, Slowbro for special bulk, Tangrowth for physical. I used Registeel to take hits from Bug types, but I'd probably go with something that resists Bug/Fight, like Weezing, if I were to do it again because Heracross.
Blastoise is a good spinner and offers Toxic support, but isn't really "bulky" and doesn't hit very hard. It's better in rain, but still not good. Gets some use in UU with Rain Dish, but it's unimpressive.
Don't play competitive Gen 5, it's absolutely awful. DW abilities turn the game into "force your broken strategy faster than the opponent can force theirs and you'll sweep their team". DPP UU/NU/Ubers was the best Pokemon has ever been.

yeah, I really enjoyed gen 4.

I guess I'll just wait for Gen6 and see if Blastoise improves.

Do you think the Megaevolved X version will get another typing? I wouldn't be surprised to see it as Water/Steel

If the other Mega doesn't get a serious defense boost and Swift Swim, forget it. Blastoise will never be a sweeper and giving it a +damage ability when it's a support mon is not very useful.
If it does get another type, Steel is the only one that makes any sense. With SS and better bulk, it would be a pretty good support mon. The problem is the same as Venusaur's, though, since you give up Lefties on a bulky dude.
The difference is that Venusaur gets Synthesis and is immune to Poison while Blastoise has Rest and (without Steel typing) isn't.
