It doesn't have to be like 15 seasons like Pokemon, it can be like Chronicles, gets a good amount of episodes to tell its story and then leave.
Trying to squeeze all of Kanto storyline into a 1 hour special is ridiculous, there's way too many talking points to get rid of and make it coherent and it wasn't. There was a shit load of mistakes and things they just had to drop entirely, it was a fucking mess.
You can't even get the game done in an hour, hell in an hour you'd be at Vermillion City at best.
