Excluding mega evolutions, we have now seen 54 new Pokemon.
If the "70 new Pokemon" rumor is true, we only have 16 Pokemon left.

Why would gamefreak officially reveal so many Pokemon if this is the smallest amount of new Pokemon to date?

he said he had seen around 70. he didn't even take the time to count and there were probably some he was forgetting or hadn't seen.

there will be at least 100 new pokemon. 100 is the least they have ever done. also don't forget that some of them will be event legendaries that wouldn't be encountered in normal gameplay.

With the 3DS' ability to do DLC, I'm hoping that they keep the event legendaries OFF of the cartridges until they're released. That way they'll be a surprise when they finally come out.

Why is everyone so worried about the small amount of new pokemon?

I like the idea they are easing up on the new pokemon output. I don't hate the new pokemon but I like the idea of using what they already have.

I agree, but the way GF has handled revealing Pokemon has lead to some disappointment.
If there are only 70 new Pokemon, I'm totally fine with that. The fact that they've officially shown off 39 of them though is just stupid.

It leaves barely anything left to be a surprise.

I like that they're working with what they already have, but why spoil so much of what's new if there isn't much of it to begin with?

It doesn't make sense to show off SO MANY Pokemon if there aren't that many.

Honestly, it makes sense for there to be a smaller amount of Pokemon this time around. With the introduction of megas and 3D models and all that jazz, we've got a ton of new content. It'd just be a shame if they showed off so many of the new Pokemon and there weren't many left to see.

Seems each area has 150 mon in its dex.

Central has 29 new mon, plus 2 slots that could be Flabébé evos, 1 slot that could be a Doublade evo, and 10 more slots that could be anything.

Coastal has 12 new mon, 1 slot that could be a Biancle evo, 1 slot that could be a secret eeveelution, and 33 more slots that could be anything.

Noivern, Skrelp, Clauncher, Swirlix+Evo, Spritzee+Evo, Orotto, Dedenne, Xerneas and Yveltal are currently unaccounted for.

No they don't, but they are essentially new Pokemon in disguise with their own everything and their own models that had to be made.

Essentially, effort that could have been used for new Pokemon was used for making a new old Pokemon.

Not that I personally care, but not taking up dex entries has nothing to do with the fact that the Mega Evolutions could be accounted for by Game Freak as "new Pokemon" and be like "BUT THERE WERE ALL THOSE MEGA CHARIZARDS" when people ask why so few new guys.

Hiro has not given ANY confirmed information for these entire past 9 months aside from the Fairy-type way back in the first half of this year if I remember correctly.

So, besides knowing about the Fairy type months and months ago, Hiro hasn't been a good source at all for game info since Black and White.
