Generation 2 was the B2/W2 for the original games, with beautiful locations, music, characters, and a nice expansion to the Pokemon, without flooding the Pokedex with legendaries.
Gen 5, Gen 1, and Gen 4 are all good for different reasons for me. Gen 1 of course, started it all. Gen 5 was a perfect reboot, and it's sequels maintained the old audience, through the updated Regional Dex', and more importantly, the Pokemon World Tournament. It also has some of the best music of any of the games. Gen 4 however, was by a mile, the most polished. Platinum, and HG/SS are the best games of the series
B2/W2 can sneak in there too I guess and the lore of these games is the only lore I've ever cared about. All the events were dope as fuck, expanding on what was only fan speculation before, and it bridged nostalgia, and new features perfectly.
Gen 3 almost killed my love for Pokemon.
