Legendary beast is fine, since they're all specifically mythical animals with mix and match characteristics.
Suicune is a Qilin, which has aspects of leopards, wolves, and unicorns. Entei is a foo dog, part lion part dog. Raikou is a raiju, though pretty obviously based on a sabertooth tiger, the raiju had elements of wolves as well.
They're beasts, not cats or dogs.
