Remember a couple weeks ago when everyone was shitting themselves over these Pokemon and how much they loved them? Now suddenly because of the starters this is the worst gen ever? The starters, which honestly, are way better than last gen. /vp/ is total shit now.

Honestly I really like all of the starters, because they dont feel like generic "it just gets bigger", they change pretty drastically while still building on their concepts/ideas
Really I think they are pretty cool and plan on getting all three and naming them after miyazaki movie characters because thats what they remind me of.

It is terrible enough with how blatantly it shits over the theme of the previous mon.

But it's a horrible Pokemon as a stand alone. That tongue cannot possibly fit in his mouth, or even his entire body. Because he can't physically contain it, he has to tie it around himself, practically strangling himself, to try to keep it out of the way to enable him to be a remotely competent fighter.

Picture this thing eating or talking. He has to shove food into this tiny slit around his awkward as hell tongue, and when speaking he talks with a retarded lisp as opposed to the dignified looking Pokemon it evolved from.

Move over Binacle, this thing is worst Pokemon of the gen.

The new starters are shit.
Period.
But starters aside, this gen is full of cool pokemon.
And more importantly, leakers have shown that this gen has more available types of pokemon than any previous generation from older gens.
So not only are we getting new cool pokemon, but cool old pokemon too.
So many options.
Don't like the new starters?
Don't use them.
Ditch them in the PC and catch some cool pokemon instead.

People's problem with the starters is that everyone had godly expectations on them. And as you know, when something doesn't quite meet someone's expectations, it's complete shit. Everyone set themselves up for disappointment at day 1. I personally like all three final evolutions. Even Delphox, whom I was not a fan of in its first and second stages.

I can not care about shit the Pokedex says and ignore it fairly easily. I can't exactly ignore a design. Thinking about that tongue even slightly just fucking disturbs me, and that is the only characteristic the design has outside of being awkwardly polygonal. Tongue as a comically long scarf is terrible on so many levels that I cannot even begin.

I appreciate that they continue their concepts as they evolve. I'd say that chespin was the biggest suprise in that I dislike both him and quilidin but it's final evo looks awesome. Fennekin looked real promising to me but honestly the final evo made me change my mind. The middle stage looked amazing IMO. Now it has this dress of fur that looks out of place and completely unnatural as well as impeding of her movement. It's a shame because Fennikin's second stage looked real swift and agile. The final stage looks like a totem pole. Geninja on the other hand really isn't bad. I just wish they would have kept the bubbles in some variety.

To be fair, they are important.
They are the introduction to the generation for most players. And they are your powerhouse and main go-to for a good chunk of the start of the game.
Also the fluff of Pokemon puts a lot of emphasis on what your first pokemon is. What creature brings you into the world and how that describes you as a person.
That said, starters obviously aren't the end of the game. And even if they all suck you still have 700ish other choices.
