As absolutely stupid as that design is, I actually kind of like it. It's absurd that a natural creature looks like a man made object, but I guess it's no different that Magnemite having magnets or Voltorbs looking like pokéballs.

Although I suppose the case could be made that the objects' designs were inspired by the Pokémon.
