This is the reason earlier generations designs were the best.
Goomy is simple, cute, not overdesigned and looking at its type it's obvious it was based on a dragon slug.
I'm glad GameFreak can still come up with clever designs like this, too but it's overshadowed by the horrific abominations gen 6 has brought us (*cough*Mega Charizard X, Barbarcle, Aromatisse and Slurpuff*cough*)
