I had hoped they would allow at least some hold items. It took a long time for them to re-introduce useful items in previous generations. This may mean another generation where the metagame is crippled and less interesting for years. Things like Custap berry may be gone for good.

It was more of an exception really. Gen 1-2 didn't allow it, same with 4-5. Because Bank is future proofed, it pretty much means no items and HM moves too

Some items that could be held in previous games don't exist in current games. The Johto Poké Balls are an example.
