I agree Pokemon games are getting really fucking stale and so are the story formulas, but Ruby and Sapphire are the one's to blame, not Gold and Silver.

The funny thing is, they have. While not made by GF, there are the Dungeon and Ranger games. Not nearly as possible as the traditional games.
