I have NEVER had such a hard time picking Pokemon for a game.

Probably going to go with Everstoned Braixen, and then Box the Torchic/Charmander/Lucario/Lapras and every other damn gift Pokemon you get early game.

I'm going to use Greninja until I Sycamore gives me my Charmander. It's the only pokemon I need. I guess I'll use Pangoro as an HM slave but that's it.

The pokemon in gens 3-6 are fucking hideous. I wouldn't be caught dead using them.

I'm using Trevenant for my grass, and I like Clawitzer/Draglage more than Greninja. I have no fire-type so far, but Delphox is a piece of shit and I'm already Hawlucha so Blaziken is out of question.

Use Torchic. Better that than a liability with an everstone.

Basically, use the Torchic from the distro to play until the third gym[/spoier]. After that you'll be given a Lucario + Lucarionite by the leader, and just outside town an NPC will give you a Lapras

Doesn't matter. You can pick Froakie and Squirtle. The most balanced group is something like Greninja/Venusaur/Blaziken or Chesnaught/Blastoise/Blaziken, but you're free to pick whoever you want.

If Florges ends up being Fairy/Grass, I'll probably still keep it and Venusaur in. I still need a good Poison type (Gengar doesn't seem to be available until post-game) and Florges looks like the definite best option for Fairy.

Still kind of sad about it though because I really like keeping the starter around and even fitting it into a competitive team if possible, which I've only ever managed with much success with Infernape (and Serperior on Showdown), and I can't see Chesnaut making it unless it has a really amazing alternate ability or a few special egg moves.

Then you can download a free Torchic, provided that you do so before 15th/Jan/2014

Lastly, after the first Gym, you may select one of the original starter Pokemon; Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.

So you get to pick from two selections of starter Pokemon, as well as the free Torchic.

Torchic and the chosen Kanto starter will also come with their respective Mega Evolution stone.

Pokewalkers are for HeartGold and SoulSilver, those games are two gens old, man. Torchic was a starter from the 3rd Generation of games (Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald) and is only being given out for a limited time, around X and Y's release.

Togepi is NOT the same as a fully evolved Mega Pokemon.

And the Togepi in Gen 4 was just a throwback to the Mr. Pokemon side quest in Gen 2.

It has one of the best abilities in the game and 70/145/70/140/70/115 stats (610 total), it's absolutely insane. The only downside I can think of is it probably doesn't have Bullet Punch.

Also, Riolu has an appearance rate of 5%. You have to actively seek it out, meaning you're actively looking to break the game. GF even gimped it so it's stuck with Quick Attack until level 11.

Honestly I didn't want to get Charizard. Rather have Blastoise but the mega evolution for Blastoise looks like complete and utter shit. Venasaur is cool but everyone says the mega is absolutely useless.

Other pokemon outclass it, because it can't use leftovers or black sludge.

It'd need weather control support for synthesize to be viable, and if you're going to go that far, you might as well have a normal venusaur with chlorophyll and a mega Charizard Y.
