bug is in some way related to light, maybe because they're "holy" so it's super effective against dark, but not very effective against ghost.

Yeah, of course. It's human nature to try to establish causality between patterns. Bug > Dark could be related to how bugs thrive in dark environments, though these sort of memory tools falter when trying to distinguish directionality.

It's also helpful to remember that some types are pretty much just wildcards.

I still dont get the Fairy ones -- i know fairy type is weak to poison / steel

i know fairy can't hurt fire / psychic / something else

I jus plan on doing trial and error. it's what helped me learn that electric can hurt rock types (i thought rock and ground was the same pretty much back in gen I / II)

Traditionally, fay creatures cannot touch iron. Steel functions as metal in general, so that's that.

Fairies use their magic to enchant swords and armors so they can kill and be immune to dragons, Fairies calm down the fighters, Fairies' spells dispel evil (dark).
Fairies aren't effective against Steel since it absorbs their spells and they are not effective to Poison since they hate pollution.

I don't even need to rationalize them, they've been hardwired into my brain for upwards of 10 years now. I'm going to be on my deathbed forgetting who my family members are, but I'll know damn well that Psychic is weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark.

Birds fuck up grass and plants for various reasons, such as to get food (berries or damage while getting insects).

Many species also use plant material to build nests.

Fairies and wizards are known for taming and slaying dragons. Their magic also wards off "evil" Darks and their higher INT lets them rip apart Fighters because mage > warrior.

Steel types are mechanical, magic gets raped by machines.
Poison uses biological warfare to poison squishy Fairy mages because science.

Fire resists Fairies because Fire generates its own light.

I see flying as more of a wind type.

Wind blows away light plants, bugs and leaves with relative ease. I'm guessing wind could also fuck up a fighter's stance if it's strong enough. That's how I rationalize it at least.

Everytime I get the opportunity to use an Ice attack on a Water pokemon I end up doing it because every bit of logic in my brain just says that most fish don't like being frozen.

If anything I think they should both be super effective against each other.

My rationalization for why dark is weak to bug is that since they rely on trickery and other "unfair" tactics, they're basically just huge pussies who are probably afraid of spiders.
