I found weird as hell that I would train up for one gym, beat it, and they see that next gym was barely any levels above the previous one.
I absolutely hated the fact that after I wrecked the E4, I had to go fight the Kanto gyms, which was cool at first, but became terrible when I saw that all the pokemon in the area where low level and the gyms where on par with 8th gym levels.
But once you're done with the Kanto gyms, you had to fight the E4, which where now higher level. It would have be great, if it wasn't for the fact that I had to grind levels on pokemon that where around 1/3 of my Pokemon's levels.
Leveling up for Red was worse, I actually have up training just after evolving my Pupitar. I went ahead and beat him in one go. It was totally underwhelming.
Let's not even get started on the fact that most of the new Pokemon where unavailable in the new region until post game.
