We're going to end up with around the same number of "new pokemon", then we're getting the whole Mega thing instead of the usual set of new evos/pre-evos. I really don't care whether or not they count as "new pokemon". It's basically the same shit. We really don't know yet how many of those there will end up being.
Plus new features added, like fucking 3D, the number of pokemon really doesn't matter much.
