Ok /vp/ i have a theory. I think if mega-evolutions did not include the word mega WAY less people would have an issue with them.
Some people dislike any sort of change at all, but i think the word mega forces people to make the digimon comparison and there has been a "thing" in the pokemon community forever about declaring loudly "WE ARE NOT DIGIMON". This "thing" in people's minds causes a gut reaction against mega-evos as they fear their precious pokemon is sliding into the digi-direction. Any sort of temporary evo would cause a comparison but the word mega exacerbates the issue a ton.
Im not trying to dog on anyone who dislikes mega or claim they are the greatest thing ever, i just think that people forget how intensely emotional of creatures humans are and how much wording effects us
