IMHO, Gen VI could have easily been the best generation if it weren't for the lack of new Pokemon. Don't get me wrong, I'm reserving judgement until I actually play the game, but unless there are somehow a lot more Pokemon that haven't been revealed somehow, that's inevitably going to be a dealbreaker for me. I know not everyone places as much importance on the new batch of Pokemon as myself, but surely a lot of people do, and for good reason. Sure, each generation brings with it its new features, graphical and gameplay improvements, but it is largely the same game. This is not a criticism. It sticks to the same basic formula because it works. I wouldn't have it any other way. But this means that a lot of what makes the game unique is the actual batch of Pokemon. It's obviously the biggest part. The main attraction. It's why I play these games, and despite all the beautiful animations, 3D gameplay, and other improvements, it's the core of the generation, at least for me. So, while everything else about Gen VI may be fantastic, if that core is lacking, it's a disappointment for me. ~70 Pokemon is not nearly enough, for so many reasons. I only use new Pokemon on my first playthrough. I just like my first experience to be completely new, and include at least 6 Pokemon I've never used before. For myself, and anyone else who does this (the majority, I believe), 70 is not nearly enough of a selection. Especially not with these types. In a new gen, I want at least a hundred. Not just to have options, but for the variety. I like seeing a lot of new additions. What a surprise, right? I like the Pokemon in my Pokemon games.
OP
Why is there a lack of pokemon? Is it because the game takes up too much space?

(cont.) Any time someone voices this concern, it's met with, "Why do you need more Pokemon? There's already so many! It's better they make 70 good ones rather than tacking on a bunch of shit Pokemon." It's baffling how anyone can be this thick-headed. I don't NEED anything in a game. I WANT things. And it's not like the amount has anything to do with the proportion of Pokemon I like to ones I dislike. Even in a batch of 70, there is that variety. It's not quality that's varying. It's quantity. But who knew people would want a full gen of Pokemon, right? Sorry, GF. You fucked it up. You were this close.

gen 2 only had 100 if it has more than that, I'll be fine with it...which, it probably will. Plus, mega evolutions and all.

I want to train every single pokemon they've shown so far. That's way more than usual, so I'll chalk it up as a W.

There isn't going to be any more outside of the event legendaries ala Genesect which we don't have hacking access to right at this moment. The last two Pokemon are going to be the Z legendary and the Ground/Fairy mentioned in that one review.

Nah, there's more to it than that. The gym leaders have the worst designs since Gen3. The region looks kind of uninspired in general. I can't see myself getting this game yet. Will probably skip it like Diamond/Pearl.

Anonymous
>>14272300 Because making 3D models and animations takes lots of time compared to sprites and the more new pokemon that are made the more time and money it takes.
Also, there are 700 fucking pokemon now, so GF is probably trying to slow down how quickly that number grows so they don't run out of concepts/have too many pokemon.
Finally, if the game had too many new pokemon, the old pokemon would be shoved away like in R/S/E, and the game would actually have LESS variety because of it. By having lots of different pokemon available, they make the game more varied and fun, even if this means a lot more old Pokemon than new.

I really wanted to see more new Pokemon because I love almost all of the ones that were revealed. Some of the Megas are trying too hard, but as far as the actual new ones go, there are only a handful I'm meh on, and the rest are great IMO. I really like the Pokemon they made for this gen, I just wish there were more. Until it's either completely confirmed or I get my hands on the game and see for myself though, I'm going to keep a happy thought and assume there are a bunch more. There has to be, r-right? Hopefully, in a week's time, we'll all be saying, "Haha, remember the time we were so retarded in our anticipation of Gen VI that we actually thought there might only be 70 new Pokemon?" while we sit back and enjoy the best Pokemon game to date. captcha: Rechro encounter
