They could remake every gen in the new 3D style and as long as they do it right and add new features to each version by progressively improving them I would gladly pay them for it.
There are many way pokemon games can improve beyond just new pokemon to get.
Like better AI or story mode, better presentation of the story mode, better side games.
Let's face it, they've tried many things but nothing really sticks around.
