I assume that's going to be a thing from now on; it makes evilote canonically not make sense for it to work on something in Kalos but not in Unova.
Apart from split evos like this one.

I don't understand people bringing up evolite as the reason for megas.

80% of the pokemon who need real evolutions can't even abuse evolite to any degree that would matter

I don't mean it from a competitive standpoint, I mean within the Pokémon world it doesn't make sense how, one day, eviolite doesn't work on this Pokémon, and then suddenly the next day it does.

But I guess they cocked that up with Piloswine not evolving when it knows Ancientpower and then suddenly it happening when they go to Sinnoh.

Think like this. Eviolite does nothing for Mawile in Gen 5, implied she's fully evolved. Then suddenly there's an evo and the eviolite now works for her magically

If they were smart they could have made evolite work on all pokemon that were planned to get evolutions down the line without telling anyone and waited for someone to discover it.
