Look at it this way. GameFreak has had to make models for all the old Pokemon and all the new stuff. Chances are they went with a lot of 2 stagers and 70 pokemon because of all the work that had to be done on old Pokemon.

Maybe swapping in Noivern, Pangoro, and Tyrantrum at some points. I wanted to use them permanently but I already have a Dragon type with Charizard and there's nothing Pangoro can do that Krookodile can't.

Need to use a Fairy type this gen, but it all comes down to Florges' stats and type. I wish a kind leaker would get that out of the way for us.

Then for the final spot is either one of the spooky pokemon. I'm guessing they're going to be the exact same except Trevenant will be Physical and Gourgeist will be Special orientated, so maybe I'll just use whichever one I find first. They both look awesome.

Can't be spreading them XP around, need to centralize it on 1-3 pokemon so you can outlevel opponents. Then import the old team from white after the elite 4.

Last time I checked Florges was pure Fairy and had Butterfree-tier stats. Klefki is probably the better choice, but Florges should at least help you with early game Dark/Fighting/Dragon pokemon.

Noivern is likely going to be similar to Volcarona based on his position in the Pokedex, and will undoubtedly have good stats but a glaring weakness to Ice. Tyrantrum, I don't think we've seen his stats yet. He could end up Archeops tier or Rampardos tier.

I was making an image but I realise I seriously have no idea what I'm going to use. There are precious few new Pokemon. And I don't know what to do about starters either. Greninja is the best looking at would mean I have a trio with a couple of friends, but I want Squirtle and Chesnaught would compliment that more. Plus if I use Squirtle then I wouldn't be able to use Mawile's Mega which I'd like to.

You can use Mawile's Mega, just not in the same battle that you use Blastoise's.

People don't seem to understand, you can have a team of all Mega Evolvers, you just can only use it once per battle.

I can't really decide ahead of time, as I have to feel out the Pokemon as I go, but so far I'm pretty certain I'm going to for Chesnaught, name him Don Quillote, and seek out the pistol shrimp as soon as possible from there. I still haven't decided who of the gen 1 starters I would like. And I hope I can find a Krabby and male Nidoran earl on, since they're two of my favorites. I also want Noivern, but I can't help but feel he won't be available till later in the game.

Mhmm. Also to clarify how Mega Evolution works:

You send out the Pokemon with the stone. Somewhere on the battle interface is the option to trigger Mega Evolution. You press that, then choose a move. The Pokemon will then Mega Evolve and use the selected move in the same turn.

If you send Ampharos out and Mega Evolve it and the opponent has a faster Dragon-type, you just opened Ampharos up for a super effective beatdown.

Why do people stilll think we're living like cavemen?

Wifi trading is a thing since 2006, and with the 3DS advancements it's never been easier. You can literally enter any MCDonalds and trade.

You can get X (since Megastones will probably be rarer and harder to trade), catch a Clauncher, leave it on GTS for the night and BAM next morning you have a Skrelp sitting there waiting for you

I'm getting Y but I fully plan to use Clawitzer, and I'll spend 1 minute trading one because I'm not an idiot

I can't say I'm a fan of not catching my own Pokemon despite the games being designed to make it beneficial, but if a few of my favourites turn out to be exclusive to X, I'll GTS them, or try and get someone I know to trade me. Exclusivity is really annoying, I wish they just did what they did with Sawk and Throh from now on and make one really rare. And have a legendary or two entirely exclusive.

All of these team lists are actually pretty useless though, at least for a large part of the beginning of the game. The first areas have a large mix of Pokemon from different generations, it's not just Gen 6 Pokemon.

Undecided on the last two. Probably a Heliosk or Raichu, but if Emolga is available, it's my pick for Electric

Sixth spot is either Goodra or Hydreigon. Again, depends on if Deino is available early. Dragon-type might be superflous because of Mega Charizard, but I really like Dragons, too. If I feel that it is, I'm going for Trevenant or Gengar. Again, don't know what's available. If Golurk is obtainable, I'll let him in front and center.
