E/Pt/BW2 are really great, but it leads me to believe whoever wrote those reviews were just butthurt that GameFreak released a (inevitable) 3rd version with all the fixes of the first two games and more. I don't think they were given a low score for being bad games, but rather because the reviewer was blind. But don't forget, Call of Duty can release almost the same game every year and expect high ratings and such.
