Ok, I have caught passing mention in several threads now to "the wolves", apparently roaming legendaries?

where did this rumor come from and is there any other info/confirmation?

The suspicious ice mirror is so far the most concrete evidence that this wolf legendary exists.
Besides that we have a number of other hints that may or may not be true:
-supposedly in-game NPCs mention this wolf
-an old leak that ended up being mostly accurate (it even had Zygarde's japanese name on it) that mentions an "ice wolf"
-only 3 new legendaries so far, strongly suggesting there might be more, even if event-only
-Zygarde's weird and asymmetrical stat distribution, possibly hinting there is a counterpart
-the 8th gym leader, Wulfric, specializes in ice types. it's a common trend that the last gym leader has connections to the plot. if this wolf exist and is related to xerneas and yveltall it might end up as the next cover legendary.

This dude says he created Xerneas, Yveltall and Zygarde but doesn't mention anything about the "ice wolf".
However it's also true Rayquaza, Giratina and Kyurem weren't even mentioned in the plot until their respective versions came out.
The name "AZ" is sort of suspicious though.
The plot thickens!

Giovanni is a major antagonist has connections with Mewtwo, Wallace helps you Groudon/Kyogre, Drayden/Iris help with Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem and Wulfrid may have connections with the "ice wolf" in a future game.

Not really. There's just Giovanni. And it's not like you challenge him, THEN find out he's the bad guy.

They become champions in seperate games from the ones in which they're gym leaders, so that doesn't count at all.

Bad news.

The assumed ice wolf is most likely Chestnaught's Japanese name.

Doesn't mean there isn't possibly another legendary somewhere though. I believe one of those names translates to "volcano" and "canyon" and we haven't seen anything like that.

Did anyone figure out what Dianshii was?

Cause Odin made the norse counterparts. The ice or ice/water Wolf aka Fenrisulfr/Fenrir is a son of Loki. As was Jormungandr (poison or poison/water) and Hel (dark or dark/fairy)

Zanpachi was skipping the story and text so he didn't bother to mention him.

He's the former king of Kalos, 3000 years old, created the three legendaries, and the ancestor of Team Flame's leader.

It wouldn't be the first time legendaries came after the box mascots. And I'm going to assume for the most part the leakers who have beaten the game haven't really re-traveled the region and talked to everyone they could. In this non-hackable world we don't know what to expect and that frightens me.
