>>14332674Many object based Pokemon are based on ghost possession or something like youkai/mischievous spirits. Klefki, for example, being a key stealing ghost or whatever (though not ghost).
Things like Voltorb or Electrode would presumably be something like, inspiration for modern Pokeball design or whatever in-canon.
When you get to things like Trubbish, it is usually random things. You have to remember, Pokemon aren't specifically just animals. They are magical creatures. Some Pokemon are man-made (Porygon), some are actual animals, some are dead people (Yamask, Phantump) and some are results of things happening in the world.
Going back to Trubbish, it's pseudo man-made, by accident. A chemical reaction in garbage. Grimer, on the other hand, is literally sludge that came to life from X-rays shooting down from the moon.
Vanillite looks like an ice cream cone, but it's an icicle.
Something like Klink is harder to explain other than "it's a pair of gears that came to life", though.
I got nothing in regards to "lol more of one thing".
In any case, obviously there are people that like inanimate object Pokemon. It's not really that weird or hard to believe. Some people just like things like swords, large bells, gears and whatever.
People also like youkai and ghost possession implications.
