Fire Red/Leaf Green and Heart Gold/Soul Silver set a precedent with remakes being a paired couple.

If Hoenn and Sinnoh even do get remakes (which is unlikely; Gen I and II got special treatment for Kanto), it will probably be stuff like Rose Ruby/Sea Sapphire and Dazzling Diamond/Sparkling Pearl.

I wish we'd get Orre remakes at some point. I know that Genius Sonority was behind Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, but still.

The name of the region doesn't even get mentioned in any of the other games if you transfer an Orre Pokemon to it. It just shows up as "Distant Land".

We already have third versions for those generations, and the eventual remakes were two-parters.

Gold/Silver > Crystal > Heart Gold/Soul Silver

Following that logic

Ruby/Sapphire > Emerald > Two-part remakes
Diamond/Pearl > Platinum > Two-part remakes

But I'm not going to hold my breath for it. The fact that Game Freak skipped a third version for sequels seems like more proof that they're going to release as many individual titles as possible.
