Since the 3DS is DLC-compatible, do you think we will get more Pokemon/Megas via free DLC at some point? (Masuda confirmed he is not interested in Paid DLC). I can see legendaries that aren't even programmed into the game at this point being distributed sometime in the future.

I wouldn't be half-surprised.

Also, should there be a second set of games/game (Z) then I wouldn't be surprised if they simply added new pokemon then. Think of this as like the first half of the new gen. It's entirely plausible at this point, even though it's never been done before; autists and their patterns aside.

I hate that you called them autists because their defense will just be BUZZWORD and they'll ignore the real point, but the second half is true. People have this weird hard-on for "well, it's never been done before so it's never going to happen". News alert: plenty of shit happens that has never happened before. Just because it didn't happen when you were 8 or 13 doesn't mean it isn't going to happen now.....you know, now. The first time Nintendo has had the major ability to include DLC.

Since we're on the era of DLC, it could happen that Pokemon are released as DLC after Z is out, but they would probably still be compatible with X & Y (since they would count as a new generation otherwise)

Jokes aside it's clear they're doing a lot different as time goes on. In fact, the more time goes on the more they do differently with each game.

If they do it at all outside of the usual event Pokemon, like brand new non-Legendary species, it's just going to be Spotpass distro unlocks or some shit.

Then the game will just throw those new Pokemon somewhere in the game world.

Good news and bad news:

Good news: This is the first pokemon game capable of DLC.

Bad News. Everyone with an internet connection will have the same event pokemon.

Good News: You no longer have to go to Gamestops for event pokemon.

Bad News: According to the Torchic handout flyer, some mega stones will only be given out through events.

Good: DLC will greatly increase the life of this gen.

Bad: They might not even bother with additional games this gen.

I can see data for Mega Starters being on the cartridges as is, to be distributed like the Blazikenite Torchic at a later date.

Don't fool yourself, we still will have to. Ever since DP there's been no need for doing non-online Events, but they do them anyway.

I just hope we get a Stadium game that isn't as badly done as Battle Revolution and a Mystery Dungeon that isn't as halfassed as Gates to Infinity. And maybe, just maybe, a new Shadow Pokémon game.

You can't really compare Gates and the XY situation.

XY only has 70 new pokemon, but it also has a shit ton of the old pokemon as well. Gates had a significantly smaller amount of available pokemon than it's predecessor and a really small selection of starters(Gen V starters, Axew and Pikachu? Fucking really?). Even if you improve the mechanics, if you don't have as much content then it doesn't matter.

XY would have been equivalent to Gates if you had a gigantic region and only 70 pokemon available in it.

They already give out distribution Pokmeon, and have event items that unlocked stuff in game. That was pretty much DLC, just less substantial since it was on the game already and just needed to be unlocked, and it was simple because there was no way to do DLC then.

But now, this is the first game that can do ACTUAL DLC, with substantial additions that are not present in the game already. Whole new areas, story extensions, new Pokemon even (though it'll probably just be event Pokemon already on the game like it's always been). All of these are possible now.

"No Post game" means jack shit if we get whole story extension as DLC and other stuff, all of which will more than likely be free since they are against payed DLC.

Who says Blazikenite is in the cartridge? I think it's this game's first instance of legitimate DLC. This way you won't be able to acquire certain items/Pokemon without DLC, and you can no longer even use programs/hacks to obtain stuff that is within the cartridge, but unobtainable through normal means like you could in past games.

You must have missed the memo where the 3DS hasn't been hacked yet.

It's probably on the cartridge and just needs to be unlocked like most events. The possibility of add-on content is still there, but I would assume this is not an instance of that since it's coming out the DAY OF release, as opposed to a few months later.

This guy gets it. Game Freak is only comfortable when they're under providing. They do like to throw us a bone or two ever other generation but you can count on them taking it back. I really don't expect them to do any DLC of any sort (aside from Pokemon distributions).

I think you're misktaking "programmed into the game" with "obtainable in the game". They're very likely there to decrease bloat. If they kept adding event legends where the model data has to be downloaded, those tiny 2GB and 4GB cards would be full fast. I know some people have put larger cards in their 3DS by now, but I assume Nintendo would be accomodating the largest target demographic, which is younger.
