I am at a loss for who to really expect.
I thought for sure Olimar & Toon Link would be cut (two of my favorites) yet they're back, and I thought for sure Mewtwo would be in Brawl, but he wasn't.
I got extremely butthurt when I saw Meowth and Deoxys revealed on the Dojo, because I was looking forward to both of them as potential characters. Meowth because he was always intended instead of Jiggs and Deoxys because of the potential moveset with the form changes.
Jigglypuff is in an interesting position. On one hand, she's been in the series since the beginning, so you'd think she'd have immunity but Donkey Kong in Mario Party proved that no one is safe.
Jigglypuff's also not even relevant anymore to the anime, and the Pokemon cast is primarily fueled by that (except PT, but even then, sorta). I still think Jigglypuff will be in, but if I had to choose between her and Meowth, I'd choose Meowth, but oh well.
Pokemon Trainer is a toss-up. I definitely want PT back. I loved playing each of the Pokemon (though I mostly played Squirtle or Ivysaur), but he could also be switched to a different trainer with different Pokemon. Then comes the issue of how the 3DS version directly affects the Wii U one. If they have issues with him on 3DS and cut him, it means he's not on Wii U either.
Between Mewtwo and Lucario, Mewtwo definitely has a renewed focus (Genesect film, Origins postgame, Mega Mewtwos, etc), but Lucario is vaguely relevant to XY's plot and also got a Mega and is often showcased still.
I feel like Charizard being shoved in our faces (Ash's returning, Origins, 2 Megas, etc) almost ensures him returning either on his own or with PT again.
I really think Zoroark missed the boat. Not relevant anymore, no Mega. Could only get in if N was playable.
Genesect is a possibility (due to film), but unlikely. Blaziken too (3rd gen rep, Mega Event/only 3rd gen Mega announced, being in the XY episodes, showed with Lucario in the HD teaser).
I still want Deoxys, but oh well
