After seeing Chesnaught's design, I thought it was okay but I always felt like it was missing something that made it great. Then I compared it to the other grass starters and saw the problem. All the previous grass starters are animals that have a plant incorporated into the design. This plant then evolves with the Pokemon to turn into a very interesting design. Examples of this would be Bulbasaur's bulb growing into a tree, Chikorita's neck-seeds turning into a flower, Treecko's tail turning into a bush, Turtwig's sapling turning into a tree and Snivy's leaf turning into ivy.
But Chespin's evolution line doesn't really show the plant evolving. It just breaks out of the chestnut and grows big, instead of the chestnut evolving into something bigger alongside Chespin.
Anyone else feel the same way? I'll still probably pick Chespin as he's my favourite out of the lot, but his design is just not on par with the other starters.
