Seriously? This shit could either be nice or the biggest scam gamefreak/nintendo could pull of.

Is it still possible to trade like we used to or do we have to use this shit now? I planned to trade some of my older pokemon from heart gold to x like i used to do since forever. Is it still possible or do i have to use this shit now? I refuse to pay a single cent for that shit, i dont want any shitty cloud service on my 3ds and even less use it with a fucking pokemon game.

So are ds and 3ds compatible with each other or do i seriously have to use that crap?

You've never been able to trade between separate generations after the first two, why would you think that? It's always been a one-way trip since then.

This is better since it doesn't require a second DS/3DS to transfer your Pokemon and it looks like you don't have to deal with some bullshit mini-game and only get your Pokemon 1-6 at a time.

I always loved the fact that youre free to do whatever the fuck you want with your pokemon and now were forced to use a shitty cloud based app which, on top of that, costs after the first month. It just bugs me. What if i want to start all over after using the free month? Im forced to pay. What if the service goes offline? What if im in a situation where i dont have internet? I just dont like this uncertainty in these things.

Thats also the reason why i never bought any game in any e-stores. I want as much control as i can get, and this whole cloud stuff bugs me and ruins my hype for this game big times.

For transferring old Pokémon, you need Poké Transporter which is within Pokémon Bank. This costs 5$ a YEAR and even one month is free. If you can't afford 5 bucks a year, you should probably not buy Y but a loaf of bread for your family instead..

I guess you have no idea what Pokemon Box or My Pokemon Ranch are.

1. You can't transfer from HeartGold to X/Y even if there was a normal method. You can only transfer from Gen 5 to Gen 6. So if you have all your pokemon on a Gen 4 game, you have to move all of them to Black, White, Black 2 or White 2 first, THEN to X or Y.

2. You have to use it.

But it's FREE for the first month after you start the program (downloading them is free). And it doesn't come out until December and the period where you can START for free is the end of January, so in theory, if you played your cards right, you'd have until the end of February to transfer shit without paying (but still only over the course of a month, but you could put it off.

So if you buy X or Y anytime between now and before January 31st, you can upload all of your fucking pokemon at once, then send them to X or Y, for free, and then NEVER touch the program again until, theoretically, Generation 7.

The reason the cloud's the big thing is because now they don't have to waste time making a new transfer method for each game. Just make the Bank support it and you can put your Pokemon from Gen 5 or 6 onto a Gen 9 game directly if you felt the need, skipping all in between.

Downloading it is free (both apps).

The first month (December 27 to end of January at the earliest and end of January until the end of February at the latest, I believe) is FREE to upload whatever the fuck you want and you can move it down to X or Y from there. You can also move all of your pokemon from X to Y and vice versa all at once (if you have both) instead of trading individually.

After that free month, you have the option to pay only $5 to use this service for the entire rest of the year. You do not have to use it again, though. After your pokemon are on X or Y, you're good. Any pokemon left in the cloud remain there, until you pay again.

Some people might want to store their pokemon there forever.

It's nothing. Less than any SMS, less than a 4chan post.
It actually costs more to run the pokemon trades and fights than the bank.
They get way with charging for this because it is seen as a new feature.
So instead of improving the game and giving it more features, they only keep the ones it already has and any potential improvements are turned into individual apps for more money.

The difference here is that the plan is to have it support all future generations.

In the past, games only transferred ahead. This would theoretically allow you to transfer 5th gen pokemon straight to 7th gen or you could potentially transfer back and forth from 6th all the way to 8th, then back to 6th.

And it lets you move mass amounts from one game to another all at once. So you can buy multiple versions and just move ALL your pokemon to another game, then start the other game over and move them all back.

Additionally, it's like "Alright, well, I could sit here and upload groups of 6 and do a minigame and take a week to move everyone over" or "I could spend $5 to do all of it at once and then move them all at once again when an inevitable other game comes out later in the year".

I'm not paying for it until 7th Gen. I'm moving everything up at once when it is free and never touching it again until I have to. Problem solved. Paying $5 once every 3 years isn't a huge deal.

They aren't "Taking care of the pokemon", how retarded do you think I am? The pokemon are data, stored on a device. If that device doesn't operate the way it needs to, then people won't be able to access the data stored on it, or the data could even be lost.

To keep this from happening, people need to maintain the system, make sure everything is working fine, replace old parts periodically, keep the room at the proper temperature/humidity, and this all needs to be done by an employee, who gets a paycheck, and medical care, etc. This is why they charge a fee.

Doing all of that costs money. not a lot, but then again, $5 a year isn't a lot of money, now is it?

Sure, they didn't HAVE to go with a cloud based system. In fact, I'm a little annoyed that they did. I would prefer the older methods of transfer to this. But this is what they chose, and the fee is perfectly acceptable for the situation.

You always had to pay money in some form except for from 3 to 4.
Gen 1 you had to buy a link cable to trade from 1 to 1, 1 to 2, or 2 to 2. (That was about $10)
Gen 2 to 3 was impossible obviously.
3 to 4 was the only time it was free.
4 to 4, or 4 to 5 required the use of a second DS System.
5 to 5 obviously required a second system
5 to 6 ends up being only $5. You could argue you need a new system, but to play XY you need it in the first place.

You can use a friend to trade your Pokemon up as well. The account is universal so any BW/BW2 game can connect to any XY game.

They said it "wouldn't go obsolete", so I assume Pokemon Bank will remain open until the franchise dies.

With an app, transfer to more gens would be a bit tricky, not to mention more expensive for the user (because you're DAFT if you think any game publisher wouldn't charge for such a thing), so yeah.

Hey I'm still paying for it, but not because I think it's justified, because it is not justified. I will pay for it because $5 is such an insignificant amount to me that I won't even feel it. And that surely does not mean that I have to suddenly stop being negative about it.
I'm fully aware of what I'll be paying for. 8.16e+12 bytes = 7.42148 TBs

8 TBs, I could easily get 8 1 TB server HDDs for just around $150

I like Pokemon Bank. $5 a year? That's nothing. I think this is a lot of complaining for nothing. I do think it's a bit ridiculous though, in a sense. Pokemon games sell in the MILLIONS. Freemium basically refers to models where it's free to play but certain more potent models of gameplay are locked behind a price barrier. A good example of this is Playdom's M:AA, where they put some extremely powerful items behind real world price barriers that you'll want to grab for competitive play.

Honestly, the free to play model is actually not that bad as long as it's done in the right way. Basically F2P models have microtransactions to deal with things, and there are 3 levels to it:

Jewtastic: Some of the best items MUST be paid for, demanding that competitive players pay to keep competitive.
Alright: Everything is free, but money can let you skip shit (like in LoL allowing you to get access to champions faster)

You can trade pokemon between the same generation with items, diamond to pearl black to white, but if I wanted to attach a soothe bell from platinum to a pokemon and trade it to my White 2 game it will not work.

Those who skip them for Z, X2Y2, remakes or Gen 7 will have to pay the $5, so this only immediately affects them for the most part.

It is being released in February and you can only use it in conjunction with Pokemon Bank..

OK then you might think, I'll wait until Febuary and transfer all my pokemans over using that sweet 1 month free on pokemon bank.

Sorry to break it to you but you can't do that. You HAVE to pay the subscription if you want to transfer pokemon over.

HERE'S WHY:

The 1 month free is not an anytime deal. It has been stated on the website that you can only get that free month if you download and open up pokemon bank while connected to the internet before January 1st 2014.

This means you have a very small window of time because the software is released on the 27th of December, so most users will probably miss out because they are not quite as aware about such things as we are.

On top of this as the latest day the 30 day trial could run out on is the 30th of January 2014. As transfer is released in February only paying users will be using pokemon bank by then.

YOU CAN NOT TRANSFER YOUR OLD POKEMON TO X AND Y FOR FREE.
