I am a little disappointed there are so few, but I guess it's okay. I can settle for less new 'mons with all the mega evolutions and new features we're getting. Plus it means I have less names to memorize.

From what I understand in the backstory, the death of the box legends killed all the Pokemon in Kalos for one reason or another depending on the version. Most of the Pokemon in Kalos are not native, but immigrated from other regions. The few new Pokemon in the game are either the few that survived the catastrophic event in the backstory or only came into existence afterwards.

There was a war 3000 years ago, and it's implied half of all the Kalos mons went extinct. Flare is trying to recreate the event.

I've heard about an apparently legendary ice wolf Pokémon but can't seem to find any more info. There was a seemingly empty "secret" cave type thing covered in ice with a mirror like wall. There was a picture with it and everything but again, I've been unable to find it since.

I guess there was an NPC in it that mentioned this Pokemon by the name of...I'm not sure. Some sort of modified version of fenrir. Like Fenrurr or something. Anybody else heard of/seen this?

The empty cave is a water cave without ice in it, the ice cave you saw was just a screen of a different cave that actually has trainers in.

Regardless the empty cave is pretty much guaranteed to be for event stuff like Pledge Grove in B2W2.
