Why not, that's how every previous game has worked. Besides, that would introduce event duplication - trade it to someone then reset for a new one as many times as you wish.

You'll be able to use bank to transfer what you want to your new save anyway, so even if you have no friends who can help, you don't have to lose it.

That being said:
