Genuine question:

Why are people pissed that Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde are the only legendaries?

Haven't people been asking for less legendary Pokemon ever since Sinnoh (and arguably Hoenn)'s overload of them?

Not to mention, we are guaranteed at least three event Pokemon and considering the games are based on Norse mythology, we are probably going to be getting an awesome uber squirrel as the Mew/Celebi/Shaymin and a bad ass Fenrir ice wolf.

Why are people pissed?!

I don't know about everybody else, but I feel like there's just not enough. Kanto and Johto did legendaries pretty well, and introduced the norms that we've grown to love. The box legendaries, the trios, the "fairy" legendary. It feels strange and different that these weren't included, but I'm not going to cancel my preorder over it.

It's possible to have a middle ground between "15 legendaries" and "3 legendaries."

Blastoise and Charizard were not legendaries. We got a trio, Mewtwo and Mew in Kanto.

We are getting a repeat of that this gen.

The trio is Xerneas, Yvetltal and Zygarde. The event Pokemon (of which there will at least be two), will fill in for Mew and Mewtwo.

Done.

It's like you people have never read a book in your lives.
The person who made up that theory had only skimmed Yggdrasil's Wikipedia article, at best.

If Xerneas was part of a legendary quartet of FOUR deer, then I might buy into this theory, but it's not.
The deer were just ordinary deer (no power over life), and the eagle's only superpower was that it could talk to Ratatosk the squirrel. It wasn't some kind of harbinger of the end of days.
And Nidhogg? It was pure evil. Not some kind of cosmic balancer.

They're based on animals that vaguely resemble the letters X, Y and Z.

I wish this stupid damn theory would just die already.

They weren't normal deer, they had antlers made of jewels.
Xerneas has eight antlers of four different jewels.
They changed representation for their own purpose but it's clearly norse mythology inspired

Also I don't get why people are pushing for Fenrir or Ratatoskr based legendaries. When have the pixie and the lesser trio been thematically related to the main trio ever?

Xerneas has four pairs of horns with four different colored gems in it to symbolize the four deer, but it also takes inspiration from Cernunnos, a Celtic god of nature.
Just because the inspiration isn't obvious doesn't mean there isn't a theme. Yveltal is a wyvern instead of an eagle, for instance.

Please, somebody show me how Xerneas in any way represents the four deer, and how a hawk sitting between the eyes of an eagle that can talk to squirrels (and is now apparently blind? Never heard that part!) represents Yveltal.

Please, I'm dying to hear how these Pokemon are in any way similar with the animals mentioned in the Grimnismol, other than, you know, being a bird and a deer (which aren't exactly exclusive to Norse myth!)

Yatagarasu doesn't fit, since Yveltal is Destruction as opposed to Xerneas' Life motif.
I'd think Xerneas' resemblance to the Shishigami is more than a coincidence though.
