Mr. Mime being a mime is a coincidence. While Mr. Mime resembles a human, for some reason Mime Jr. doesn't, it resembles a typical blobby creature. The only way for it to evolve is to know mimic. This means that Mime Jr. evolves by mimicing how humans look, becoming the more humanoid Mr. Mime. That makes this species of pokemon mimics rather than some kind of natural occurring clown. Instead of treasure chest, they try to be like you. Mr. Mime seems benevolent though, only turning into a form that seems to attract attention more so than anything else.
