So i'm getting a black 3DS XL. Unfortunately my DS along with my R4 were stolen (doesn't bother me much, it was worn out anyways). Should I just buy another DS and flashcart from ebay or is there one that works on the 3DS that can't be crippled through a firmware update?

ebay bans them. you can only find really cheap knock offs and the occasional "im selling my collection with a flash card" listing

The Supercard DSTWO works fine with the XL, and it's the best card there is, period. Just wait a day or two before doing an system update on the XL and updating the card before you update the XL.

Sunday is the 13th. I also didn't know that there was a 3DS firmware update coming that day (hence me not having a 3DS)

Pirating games is wrong. nds got like no good 3rd party games because of how easily you could pirate games, and even half of the nintendo games were shit. I really hope that something like this will never happen on 3DS.

1. I don't pirate anymore, I have a backup of all the DS games I played on my R4 along with the save data so I will play those pirated games because of the data but I stopped pirating completely. Got a nice job out of uni so I actually have money now

My majors are Biology and Applied Physics, but Im just here to study up on my Nipponese.

Cant say about the retailer, been quite a while since I bought mine and I dont remember where I ordered it from. My only advice is not to buy a microSD from them, as you can get them much much cheaper on Amazon

To update the DSTWO you'll need a nds or 3ds that isn't of the latest firmware.

for example :

3DS latest is firmware v1.0
You can't even start the DSTWO cart if isn't updated to the latest firmware v1.0
