Stealth Rock dictated the game for 2 entire generations. It essentially decided what tiers pokemon could or could not go.

Moves that in most cases can be set and never have to worry about for rest of match which whittling down at opponents HP whenever a switch happened.
Moves (or abilities) that can be easily negated since everybody and their fucking mother either uses a weather user or uses a pokemon that abuses enemy weather users

It deals entry damage based on weakness to rock type, maxing out at 50% health. So for example, a bug/flying would lose 50% of its health on the switch in, while a fire type would lose 25% and a normal type would lose 12.5%.

12.5% health loss on any mon that switches in that isn't weak to rock. Any mon that has a rock weakness loses 25% health on switch in. Some mons like articuno have a typing like ice and flying which means they lose 50% of their health if they come out on the field with stealth rock there. Takes one turn to set up stealth rocks and the only move that can clear it, rapid spin, is very limited to the number of mons that can us it.

SR should have never been invented. It forces teams to run a spinner- to WASTE a moves lot and potentially an entire team slot just to get rid of them. That's about as broken as it gets.

Realistically, they should've made dragon SE against ghost, and grass and ice should have resisted fairy, with I've being SE against fairy. There's more they could do but it's pretty clear they only have a basic understanding of what makes certain things more effective then others in a game like this.
