How can Genwunners only like the first 151 Pokemon? This is coming from someone who started with Gen I.

They've been planning on adding more since the beginning, how did they not get excited when the new ones were revealed?

How did they not get excited when Gold ad Silver were announced? Did they just not really like Pokemon and hop on because it was the fad at the time? Are they only nostalgiaing because that's another hip thing to do nowadays?

I like gen 2 more than 1. Everything else after that was shit, except for maybe a few nit picked from gen 3 and 5. Scrafty is the only pokemon I like from 5. Tyrantrum is looking great from 6 though.

There were two types of people playing Pokemon back in '98/'99. The real fans who actually liked Pokemon for what it was, and the kids playing it just because it was so popular. This combined fanbase made it into the phenomenon big enough to be covered by news outlets and demonized by the Church, until the "fad" kids lost interest after a year or so and downsized the fanbase back to normal levels.

It's the "fad" kids who only played RBY back when Pokemon was a phenomenon that are the hipsters you now call Genwunners. They never cared about Gen 2 because by then Pokemon had stopped being "cool." They probably came to /vp/ in the last couple years because of Pokemon getting somewhat popular again, and nerdy 90's things coming into vogue.

But of course some of the Genwunners are just normal fans looking through nostalgia goggles. I do the same thing; it's easy to see the original 151 as "better" when they were such a huge part of your life back when you were 9 or 10 years old.

I never understood the hate for IV.

I was bored with my Sapphire game and didn't give Emerald a shot. Although I loved Colosseum, XD, and Leaf Green, even then I was kind of a casual Pokemon player.

Gen IV was what really got me to love Pokemon as much as I did in the Gen I and II days again, the addition of online play and transferring Pokemon from your old games to the new ones.

Personally, I loved the lore they gave the series by this point. A creator god with lower ranking gods governing different aspects of the universe and human nature.

So what? They were a great way to update old Pokemon for the Newer games with all the shit they added like Natures, EVs, and IVs.

Although Munchlax felt a tad bit pointless I'll give you that.

Maybe one of these days I'll download an Emerald ROM and give it a shot to see what I missed.

If you would do some research you would find out that there were actually more Pokémon to be implemented into R/B/Y but for an unknown reason, GF just didn't. You can still find glitchy Pokés with e.g. Water/Normal type where the sprite is a white/blue mix of pixels (referring to Marill) and such.
I don't get genwunners at all, too. I've been playing it for 14 years now and yes it seems that the games have changed in a sometimes questionable way but I still enjoy playing it and I probably will for another 5 years or even more, who knows.

Pretty much the same for me. The vast majority of my favourite Pokemon are from Gen I, probably because it's what I grew up with, but I still play (and love) the later generations... except for Diamond and Pearl, which was just disappointing.

Genwunners are just people (if you can even call them that), who stopped liking Pokemon when the fad was over, and now, 13 years later, STILL insist on berating us for liking it.

Wasn't it decisively proven that the pokedex was way bigger than 151, even at the start? I remember reading somewhere that victreebel had an unusually high ID in the code, or something along those lines, hinting he was to be part of Johto but got pushed ahead

Most people posting on this board or otherwise still interested in Pokémon at all that get called "genwunners" are actually people who consider gens I AND II the best. ACTUAL genwunners are generally people who completely lost interest in Pokémon after the first gen because it stopped being a "fad", and they typically don't post here or in other Pokémon-related online communities.

I don't know about Victreebel specifically, but both the first game's internal index numbers for Pokémon and statements by the developers confirm that more Pokémon were originally intended to be in Gen I than made it in.

Platinum is easily one of the best games in the franchise for me. I honestly can't understand why people don't like it. From what I've seen it's like people didn't even play Platinum, they just played D/P (which is pretty bad honestly). I find that silly since Platinum literally fixed every single problem that D/P had (Like most 3rd versions do) and is really fucking good because of it. Adding the Special/Physical split bumps it up a few notches for me on it's own.

Gen 2 frankly is the worst for me in terms of an actual well put together pokemon game. It's levels are wonky and it's full of Kanto pokemon despite being a new region, and a bunch of the new pokemon are either rare or found in Kanto (why?). It has 16 badges but who the fuck cares about that when everything else is subpar compared to the rest of the franchise?

I don't know why people hate Gen 3 either. Hoenn was a great region with a variety of interesting locations, good type distribution throughout the game, and a lot of memorable and interesting Pokemon. It also added Abilities, natures, and expanded on the simple berries from Gen 2, which were all great additions. It had great music too I love the trumpets. I haven't seen one reason for it being bad that wasn't an opinion, and I've disagreed with all those opinions.

I mean I know people can like what they like for different reasons, but I just don't get it sometimes.

People hate, or claim to hate, Hoenn because of all the water routes, and the annoying midi trumpets in the game's sound files. Poeple on /vp/ claim to hate Sinnoh because of all the pokémon they claim are furbait(lucario, lopunny, etc), missing the fact that furries would probably fuck any pokémon given the option, and because the story was lacking.

People claim to hate Unova because Nintendo decided to alter the design ideas behind the pokémon around this time, giving rise to the whole, "they look like digimon," thing.

Nostalgia overwhelms me when it comes to gen two, because I liked a lot of the pokémon in it better than the ones in one, but other than that, I like all the games, pretty much equally.
