To answer your question, Fairy is SE to Dark, Fighting, and Dragon, is resisted by Fire, Steel, and Poison, and is weak to Steel and Poison. Also, Steel has lost its reistance to Ghost and Dark, and all status moves no longer effect pokemon of the same typ of status i.e. Electric types can't be paralyzed, Fire types can't be burned, etc.

That was something that was up in debate when it was announce, you'd probably have to ask a leaker to make sure but I'm pretty sure they can't.

My biggest problem with Hoenn was the visual style. If they remake it in glorious 3D, it may end up being the definitive Pokemon game.
