Because if Jiggly and Clefairy for that matter were to be mono fairy only, then Whitney has no purpose to exist

Then again lance still exists with half of his team only being Dragon and yet all 3 are Dragonites

If they were mono fairies then their entire moveset would have to be reworked to include fairy moves instead of normal moves. Also transfered puff from previous gens would be fucked as they lose STAB from most of their attack moves.

I can't imagine they would add another type now - the only reason Fairy was necessary was to balance out the metagame. If they were to add yet another type to this, it would throw everything out of whack again and require yet another eventual type.

Of course, from a business perspective that makes perfect sense because it gives a direct reason to upgrade to the next entry in the series - but Pokemon is too traditional to adopt that sort of model. It took them over a decade to add Fairy, we're not getting another new type anytime soon.

...What do the lineups of old gym leaders have anything to do with how typings might change? I don't think we're going to get another new type soon at all, but I highly doubt that on Gamefreak's list of priorities regarding potential new types they care at all about what it "might do" to the roster of a character from a game from 2000.

Honestly Sound type has more of a possibility than any other idea for a new type right now. We might not get it for another few generations, but I think somewhere along the line they would want to add another type to freshen things up and it could very well be Sound.

True, but that doesn't mean their types couldn't be switched around if we're talking about some kind of generational switch thing. If we're going by OP's logic, then dual-typed Pokemon are in the clear.

But for single types: Kriketune is shit and could use some kind of cool typing, ditto for Exploud (and Chimecho), and Dusknoir is mono-type so why not?
