>>14423496>Everybody recognizes the Pokemon Center theme. Everybody remembers Kanto's champion theme because of the events and the context of that battle, not because of the piece itself. Firstly, it takes a lot of skill to write a piece of music that sticks with people in a way they recall fondly. Consider the Super Mario Bros. theme, or better, the Athletic theme from Super Mario World. The first Pokemon game had several dozen excellent and charming themes.
Secondly, the Kanto Champion theme holds its own musically as it is an engaging and complex composition. I've listened to Pokemon music so much that I hardly remember or consider it in context at all. It's purely the love of artful music that drives me to listen to these pieces again and again.
Gen 3 had some absolutely terrific tracks (Rustboro, Lilycove, Mt. Pyre's Peak, battle themes) that stand out musically without any context to back them. There are very few games I can say that about.
