So /vp/, how did we go from this to the shit seen in gens 5 and 6? How did the quality of map artwork decline so rapidly in 4 years?

The quality from these maps of gen IV and V are the same. The difference is in the draw style. And we don't have a big Kalos map yet.

Oh God, now I remember how I hate Sinnoh as a region.

No it really isn't. Gen IV's map has the routes drawn in near perfect detail. Look at the some of the cities in the Unova map and tell me that they don't consist of just one building.
