You can change them later in the game through battle points.

Also Chesnaught's special ability is Guardian, makes his defense rise each turn.

Delphox has Magic Coat which makes all special moves do half the damage against it.

Is it just me, or do their stat make them all note terrible for in-game use....especially over Gen 5?

Looking at this though...man.....

Chesnaught seems really cool, but that speed is a turn off.
Delphox seems too much like Gardevoir with an even shitter moveset
Greninja has a great movepool and decent stats, but Ive picked Water for every Generation, minus 3.

70 is more then enough for something that's supposed to be a tank.

They're nothing alike apart from being psychic types with high sp att, and delphox's offensive movepool is already as good as gardevoirs based on what little we know.

He's got something better.

Power up punch raises attack with each use, Guardian raises defense every turn.

If you set it up nicely you can have a permanent boost of attack and defense while doing damage.

Ive heard the rumors of the Chesnaught/Delphox hidden ability, but cannot find any source of it (as much as I would LOVE That Delphox ability)...

I have seen a rumored photo of each having a Dual-Type move, but again, cannot find a legit source if anyone can....the Photos had 3 moves (Grass/Fighting, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Dark).....Each had 5 PP that did 120 BP with 90 ACC that counted as both types.

Grass/Fighting was Physical, while the other 2 were Special.

Greninja can potentially get immunitites and resistances changed mid fight, it's a make or break ability, but if well used can potentialy avoid the most common threats by using Hidden power to get an uncommon attack type.

No actually....Its type changes AFTER you attack.

So if you have a normal Water/Dark Greninja, if you use Lick...Lick will deal damage, then you'll change to Ghost.

If you want to use the same attack twice yes, the second time you use the attack it will be a STAB. Otherwise you might go through a fight without STABs at all.

It was some anon in the original "Serebii Confirmed" thread about the Protean Ability for Greninja.

He stats that Chesnaughts Hidden Ability was "Guardian", which was a Defensive Speed-boost, meaning he's Defensive would go up 1-stage after every turn. Delphox's Hidden Ability was Magic Coat (already the name of a status move, but whatever) which would half the damage of all incoming special attacks.

however, this anon could not provide a source.
I would love for both of these two be true, as it makes all 3 starters legit threats in UU and possibly in OU if their movepool gets alittle better.

When you attack, Greninja's typing changes to match that attack. He's always operating with STAB.

Afterwards....

If your first attack is Water or Dark, you'll get STAB and he'll turn to Mono Water or Mono Dark.
If you use a non-STAB attack (Lick, Extrasenory, etc) then you'll attack without STAB then change to Ghost or Psychic, or whatever the type of the move was. It allows Greninja a way to trick its type to prevent Special Effective damage to make up for his very low defensive ability.

Alright, my bad, I'll admit to my mistake. I read the information incorrectly. Protean isn't THAT bad.

However, my frustration is not without purpose. Regardless of how STAB-erific Greninja's Hidden Ability is, he has still been wronged stats-wise. His great speed is otherwise useless without any good attacking stats and supreme frailty.

I don't know if everybody else is just in denial, or trying to accept it or what, but I am fairly upset about poor Greninja.

But in my opinion Greninja compared to the other two is not THAT bad. It's a lot more well rounded I guess. and I can see its stats making sense for a ninja

A Fast Mixed attacker, Ninjas aren't supposed to get hit too much so the lack of bulk is reasonable. It's very much usable. I understand your reason for being upset though, but I'm sure Greninja will find its niche.

Group at Serebii is trying to find the hidden ability for Chesnaught and Delphox...and they ran into someone interesting when fighting a Chesnaught.

The user had a Arcanine use Extremespeed on Chesnaught, and for some reason, it did 5% of damage.

they bred a Chesnaught with an Abomoasnow with Ice Punch, Icy Wind, Wood Hammer and Ice Shard, and got a baby Chespin with Ice Punch

then a Delphox with a Lucario that GAVE THE BABY FENNEKIN AURA FUCKING SPHERE

and a Greninja with a Lapras. The Baby Froakie had Ice Shard with a Lapras with Ice Shard, Body Slam, Brine and Perish Song

Look at Carracosta for example, it also has Shell Smash, same with Omastar shining on me now!.

It's the combination of both Skill Link and Shell Smash that make it OU.

Greninja seems to be the only OU viable. That speed is great, it gets Nasty Plot and that hidden ability has the potential to be broken.

If Delphox had 4 more speed points it would be miles better, as it's now it's too slow to work as an OU sweeper.
That hidden ability is great, but it doesn't help against it's biggest concerns that are stealth rock and pursuit.

Chesnaught is certainly interesting. that hidden ability has a lot of potential, but if it doesn't get mach punch it's worthless.

Any Pokemon with Decent Sp.Atk and speed can OHKO Chestnaught with Flamethrower or Ice Beam. It's literally Grass Emboar. Somehow GF fucked up worse than last gen. Although Delphox and Greninja are Good pokemon with Good typing Stats and Move sets. Poor GrassFags.

Ill be chilling with Greninja with his newly buffed Dark type and 115 Base Speed. Also the only starter who Isn't mismatched vs The now OP Ghost types.

Volcarona has the same 100 speed-but-boosting-move deal, and since Delphox gets Fiery dance, I wouldn't totally rule out Quiver Dance as well.

Hence, underestimated.

Although I've personally always seen Salamence as more of a Wall-Breaker than a true sweeper.

Mixed attack stats, likely to get boosting moves in both, fast as fuck, strong priority moves, wide movepool. I'm pretty sure it's faster than any other common priority user.

Also has a slew of interesting Defensive options, like that Mat Block move in Doubles and all the shit that Protean brings with it.

Plus Dark got buffed, and Water is still good even with the nerf to Drizzle. Basically, it's versatile enough to do any of several things well, and doesn't have any truly crippling weaknesses either.

Its type is still based on your IVs, but it does 60 Flat BP, and from what Ive HEARD (so not 100% confirmed), it only grants STAB bonuses to Normal types.

I understand your point (and it is a good one, I might add), but what I'm mainly mad about him being so unbalanced. Fantastic speed, sweet ability, but shit attacking and defensive stats. Even neutral and strong resisted attacks will tear through him, the only chance he has is to gain an immunity through Protean.

No matter what you do, his speed and ability are not going to do shit when he cannot lay out a hit, or take one, either.

Okay so this is the guy who has been being a little pussy butthurt babby over Greninja's stats. I think I've come to terms with what he is meant to do, and I can thank ya'll for that.

I've thought about it, and he's supposed to be sneaky, you know,like a ninja, obviously. He gets access to Nasty Plot, which can turn him deadly offensively, and *supposedly* gets a great movepool. He may not be that strong, but he is fast, so he has to use strategy to work around his opponents,and take them down with precision and timing. Mat Block, Water Shuriken, Extrasensory, all are moves this guy can use to his advantage, plus many, many more.

While he's still definitely not the best starter by any means, he does still seem pretty great. Instead of "HURR DURR POWAR TO LE CHESTNUT AND LE FOXE", all out power is not this thing's only option. He's sneaky and manipulative, with just enough power to take down his foes with grace and style.

Thanks, guys, you just made my first playthrough that much better.

Delphox is Gardevoir upgraded into UU/OU

It's going to change a lot more than you realize. A lot of EV spreads are made specifically to guarantee a OHKO on certain Pokemon with the least investment possible. Now more EV's will be needed to get those KO's and some unfortunate Pokemon won't be able to guarantee OHKO's on Pokemon that they could before.

I think too many people are taking Chesnaught and Delphox's supposed hidden abilities as the gospel truth, when we really don't know yet. It looks like the people on Serebii reporting those abilities are from /vp/ and are the ones using the serebii thread as proof. I'm not sold yet.

Yes, Slaking is shit. As for Salamence and Volcarona, they both almost invariably rely on a speed boosting set-up move. 100 is the minimum acceptable speed for a sweeper, and the ones with 100 all use speed boosting moves.

Has a massive attack stat and Three abilities that further increase the power of his attacks. He's pretty much a big stick.

Chesnaught is just mediocre.

Spore, Mach Punch, Swords Dance, Technician. Overall a much better Grass/Fighting than Chesnaught. Chesnaught wont be taking Breloom's spot anytime soon.

Chesnaught doesn't fucking need technician. He gets mach punch and with his ability he's a defensive juggernaut. He can spiky stall, sub stall, drain stall, and then finish off the job with wood hammer. You'd have to be a real dumbass not to see the potential here.

Fighting type move that also has Flying type attribute on it. So a Fighting type Pokemon will get STAB on it but not a Flying type Pokemon.

Fuck Mach Punch, just give it Power Up Punch, that plus his ability and it can get an attack and defense boost every turn while wrecking shit at the same time.

Also, Spiky Shield if you want a safe defense boost.

Hydreigon IS a shit sweeper, he's used to punch holes in a team, not sweep.
Haxorus, Volcarona and Salamence have speed-boosting Dragon Dance to make up for their speed.
Kyurem-W is a good sweeper because it's in Ubers where the average speed is lower. Kyurem-B is a shit sweeper, it constantly gets outsped by fighting types and Terrakion who can all kill it (or walled by steel types and forced out / killed, obviously.)
Slaking literally shouldn't even be on this list, it's unimaginably shit and thanks to Truant and doesn't even deserve to leave NU.
