When Black/White came out I saw tons of people playing it at my University in California. You would literally go to a lecture and see 2-4 people playing it in a hall of ~70 people. Might not seem like a lot, but it's probably the tip of the iceberg. I'd say 20+ people make up about 50% of the sales of Pokemon games.
