And, really, it was necessary. Dragons are stupid-powerful. They have insane base stats, enough that three pseudos have been Dragons. Their only weaknesses are other Dragons and Ice, and pretty much every Ice-type has such pitiful defense and laughable Speed that a Dragon will OHKO an Ice-type before it can do anything. Game Freak seems to have realized the problem by making most Dragons attainable only in the later part of the games because the Gyms would be a joke with them in your team.
Anyone who has beaten Lance or Iris can tell you that even Dragons can be wrecked with the right set up, but Dragons are the cheap class.
Unfortunately, it looks like most of the Fairies are so piss poor that the class won't really amount to much this gen.
