I'm starting the game up right now. Haven't played pokemans since Ruby & Silver on the GBA.

I payed $44 for Y at BigW and $229 next door to that in Target for the normal red XL, I better play this game alot cuz I haven't even beaten gta v on the superslimps3 and that's a waste of money.

One of the buttons on the bottom screen gives you a Global Link code, then you go to http://www.pokemon-gl.com, register, then enter the code.
It'll link you to everyone else using the global link. I have Japanese people popping up on my bottom screen all the time yelling happy things in moon at me. Its cool.

I'm leaning towards Blastoise because I won't have a decent water type for a while, but I'll probably be using Froakie postgame anyway.

Does anyone have a firm grasp of how the super training works in terms of ev/iv stats?

Theres a lot of new stuff to digest, and serebii has yet to update me on most of it.

Are there any X bros who would be willing to trade me a Clauncher for a derp? Anything between Level 20-25 and any Nature so long as its not reducing his attacking stats.

Clauncher is my favorite Gen 6 Pokemon, but I like literally everything else about Y better than X, so I got Y. But now I've beaten the second Gym and my team is already complete save for my shrimpbro.

Alternatively: Can someone tell me when I get the Good Rod, as I presume I need it to catch Skrelp? And then I'll trade a Skrelp for a Clauncher.

Loving the shit out of it. I'm taking it nice and slowly, just reached Camphrier Town. Current team is Braixen named Renard (male, Modest nature, no SRing, level 22), Budew named Jacques (male, Mild nature, level 18, training him for Rock gym), Fletchinder named Seraphine (female, Relaxed nature, level 18), and a few random others - a Ralts (male, undecided what to evolve it into), a Skitty, and a Bunnelby. They're mostly just filler, and are levels 13-15. Sera and Jacques are only temporary too, in the long run, but will be around for at least a touch longer.

There's a ton of tiny details I love about it - automatic capitalisation for names, things like the Pokeballs rocking when you catch a Pokemon, all sorts of neat shit. This game is awesome.

Out of curiosity, anyone who's got a Vivillon, has anyone seen any pattern other than River? I couldn't find one. (But I could find Ralts and a female Combee straight off...?)

Mish swept the first gym single-handed.
My team is a mix of pokemon I already like (ziggy, wartortle, pidgeotto) and some of the new ones that I find interesting. Furfrou has a defense boosting nature and the ability that halves the power of physical attacks against him... It's interesting so far. I like skippo, has sap sipper and hopefully I get to ride it later. Grass starter is just cool in my book, and this 2nd evo doesn't like it if you rub his horn things lol.

I spent the first couple hours of play before beating the first gym catching a caterpie and evolving it into butterfree, just to re-create the nostalgia of when I used to play pokemon yellow and it was literally the way to beat the first gym because pikachu was useless.

Seems like it. If you check in Super Training, you can see that with a Pokemon you've battled with has it's yellow hexagon (EV spread) that extends outwards from the green hexagon (Base Stats, I'm assuming).

Whereas with a newly caught Pokemon, the yellow part hugs/pretty much overlaps the green part (since that Pokemon has 0 EVs in anything).

Has anyone else found themselves ditching their starter? I started with Chespin which was pretty dope, rollout was OP as shit. Once he evolved into Quilladin he become so rapidly underwhelming so very quickly. I haven't even evolved him into Chesnaught, I just dropped him somewhere in the PC and never looked back. Gogoat has so much more swag anyway.

I'm sticking with the chespin line, in the older gens (apart from the early ones when I was young) I've ditched the starters simply because they're a bit of an easy mode. Especially if you get the strong attackers (in this gen, froakie is pretty op, physical attacker, fast, signature move is a priority stab attack, and then fire one is a special attacker, fast, yada yada). I'm sticking with chespin because he's defensive based, and won't significantly affect the adventure and because, obviously, I like him and the evolutions.

i would strongly recommend turning off exp share

even if you have a team of 6 you're still 5+levels higher than the gym leader, and this is without any sort of grinding and i skip a lot of trainers

You need to play differently if you're using the XP Share.

Unlike previous Pokemon games, the XP Share allows you to have several Pokemon in rotation, rather than just one team. I'm constantly cycling Pokemon in and out of my team trying to keep an ever-growing number of them around the same level. So far I haven't outstripped the Gym Leaders (except the first, because I was only using Froakie at that point.

It's better because it lets you use more stuff. The downside is if you don't try not to abuse it, you'll accidentally abuse it.

I'm liking pretty much everything. I think gamefreak have done a superb job. I think it's great that we can turn on or turn off the xp share. For someone like me, that does a lot of breeding later on, and that wants to level pokemon in certain ways (i.e., not taping down the button so my characters cycles circles around the subway overnight) this party shared xp is going to be really useful.

Right now it's keeping my team in a good level zone, and allowing me to switch out teambros and switch in lower level bros that I've just caught/traded etc. So that's good.

I think an option to turn off rollerblades would be nice, personally I don't mind them, but I'm sure others will get sick of them.

At first I found the 3D pretty shit, then I realized I was missing the 'sweet spot' once I found that I am loving it.

As an oldfag of the games I nostalgia pretty hard about the tunes, and hearing something like an electric guitar sort of makes me cringe a bit but I'll get over it.

Probably the thing that I find the worst, right now, is that I can't water a line of berries as easy as I could back in Emerald.

I kept crashing into shit, and if I had the poke amie open, I watched my pudgey-otto go tumbling across the screen and colliding painfully into the corner. Fucking hot. I got up at 8, headed over to EB, got our games (I have Y, along with one of my friends who has both, the other has X), then played them on the way home. I was playing them at home, when I got really tired from the heat, so I curled up in front of the fan, which didn't help much, so I went to sleep until about 6, and I have been playing it since then.
